A Useful Guide for Cleaning Your Home

It’s that time of year again: spring cleaning! Spring cleaning is the perfect opportunity to freshen up your home, parting ways with things you may no longer use, improving the air quality in each room, and more. Learn some helpful spring cleaning tips from your friends in San Elijo Hills.

Create a Plan

It can sometimes be challenging to know exactly where to start. Make note of the spaces you would like to focus on so you have a better idea of what needs cleaning. It is important to know that the cleaning process doesn’t have to be a one day event. You can designate a certain day for each task you wish to accomplish, for however long you believe it will take. Don’t rush! Timing is in your hands.

Make a Checklist

Write down each area of your home that needs cleaning and what exactly needs to be done. This could include your living room, kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, laundry room, closet, garage, and more. It may be time to clean out your refrigerator and deep clean the shelves, thoroughly clean the bathroom, remove grime from your oven, wash your windows; the list goes on. In order for all of this to be possible, it is important to make sure you have all of the necessary cleaning supplies before beginning the process, including trash bags, disinfecting wipes, all-purpose cleaner, a vacuum, etc. If you suffer from allergies, you may want to wear a mask and gloves when cleaning.

Top to Bottom is Key

When cleaning a space, we recommend starting from the ceiling and working your way down. This makes it so you aren’t constantly having to dust, sweep, or vacuum because of new accumulated debris.

Say Goodbye to Clutter

Many of us have items in our home that are not being used, and are instead taking up space and or collecting dust. Clutter can cause a person great stress and contribute to poor organization. During spring cleaning, we suggest thoroughly going through all of the items you do not use and determining if they can be thrown away, donated, or better organized or stored somewhere else in your home. Clean out your closet and donate clothes that no longer fit. Organize your office space, shredding papers or filing them in a proper place. Do this for every room in your home.

Replace Your Air Filters

Over time, air ducts accumulate dust, dirt, dander, and other contaminants, causing the air quality to get worse inside of your home. These things can also affect how the air flows throughout your home as well as the temperature. Improve the air quality in your home as well as your health by replacing your air filters.

Cleaning Will Bring You Joy

Spring cleaning will allow you to enjoy your home and all that it has to offer. Not only will it look aesthetically pleasing after mopping, dusting, wiping, and vacuuming, but it will also be safer from allergens and other contaminants that may have entered your home throughout the winter months. You can feel good in knowing you made positive changes and your home is proof of that!
