Fun Things to Do Near San Elijo Hills
There are a lot of fun activities to do that are within commuting distance of the San Elijo Hills community. Here are some of our recommendations!
Grand Plaza Mall
The Grand Plaza Mall is located in downtown San Marcos on the corner of Las Posas Road and Highway 78. It contains a number of popular retailers, stores, and restaurants. Some shops include Ulta Beauty, Nordstrom Rack, Marshalls, and more. You can dine at various restaurants like Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza, Love Boat Sushi, Boudin SF, O’s American Bistro, etc.
Regal Edwards San Marcos
A fun activity for date night or the entire family is taking a trip to Regal Edwards San Marcos! Grab a box of popcorn and enjoy a featured film. The theatre is located at 1180 W San Marcos Boulevard. Some movies that are currently playing include Frozen II, Dolitte, 1917, Like A Boss, Just Mercy, Little Women, Spies in Disguise, and Knives Out.
San Elijo State Beach
San Elijo State Beach is about 20 minutes from the San Elijo Hills community. Visitors can choose to come enjoy a day in the sun at the beach or make a reservation to camp for a few days. Camping reservations must be done six months in advance. During the day, visitors have access to picnic areas, the beach, the visitor center, as well as different exhibits and programs. If you choose to visit the beach during the day, you can swim, surf, snorkel, hike, and bike on the trail. Campers have access to overnight facilities including the campsite, restrooms and showers, RV sites with hookups, the RV dump station, and RV access.
San Diego Zoo Safari Park
The San Diego Zoo Safari Park is located in Escondido, which is also about 20 minutes from San Elijo Hills. Its 1,800 acres is home to more 3,500 animals. When visiting San Diego, many people visit the safari park as it is a very popular tourist attraction. There are several different tours and experiences to choose from. Some of the tours include the Cart Safari, Cheetah Safari, Jungle Ropes Safari, Caravan Safari, Flightline Safari, Roar Safari, and Ultimate Safari. Some fun activities include the African Tram, Animal Encounters, Balloon Safari, and Conservation Carousel.
St. Mark Golf Club
Got golf game? Take your talents to the course at St. Mark’s Golf Club. It is a 71 par golf course with 6,400 yards located near Lake San Marcos. Although it is a mature course, all skill levels are welcome and lessons are available for kids, juniors, and adults. Not into playing? You can enjoy a view of the golfers while eating at The Grill, a restaurant that is just footsteps from the green.
San Diego Botanic Garden
The San Diego Botanic Garden is located in Encinitas, about a 15-minute drive from San Elijo Hills. It covers 37 acres and includes an impressive list of 29 gardens. You’ll get the opportunity to view over 5,000 plant species. The garden is open 364 days a year, from 9am to 5pm.
